Whole School Letter - Easter 2019

Ref: JCH/CN

4 April 2019

Dear Parent/Carer

I would like to thank all parents and carers for their continued support this term.

Year 11

There are only three weeks remaining when students return after Easter before the main GCSE examinations begin. Students have received a comprehensive programme of revision classes available over the Easter break which are completely free of charge. Please encourage your son/daughter to take full advantage of this final opportunity to prepare for these extremely important examinations.

Revision on Wednesday 17 April and Thursday 18 April 2019 will be full teaching days with all staff available for Year 11 only. We will provide vital GCSE revision lessons that we expect all Year 11 students to attend in non-uniform.

Year 8

Year 8 Options Evening will be held on Thursday 27 June 2019 starting at 6:00pm. We would ask all parents/carers of Year 8 students to attend. There will be a presentation by the Principal at 6:00pm. Following this teaching staff will be available to answer any questions you may have about your son's/daughter's KS4 option choices.

Attendance

It is vital that students maintain excellent attendance to secure their future prospects. Poor attendance causes severe disruption to both the individual child and to the class as a whole. Please do not keep your child off school with minor ailments as we can support them in the Academy.

Mobile Phones/MP3 Players/iPods/Smart Watches

The Academy operates a no mobile phone/electronic device policy for students. Students who need to contact home in an emergency can do so at the Student Office. The policy is enforced to ensure the welfare of all students and limit the disruption to classes. In extenuating circumstances students are permitted to lodge their phones at the Student Office in the morning and collect it at the end of the school day, however they may not use their phone whilst on the school site.

Uniform

As some parents may be purchasing some extra items of uniform over the Easter break, can I take this opportunity to remind you of some aspects of our uniform policy. Students should wear black shoes not boots. Trousers must be smart tailored and not tightly fitted to the leg. May I remind parents that discreet make-up is allowed in Year 11 only. Students wearing make-up in the lower years will be asked to remove it and disciplinary sanctions will be put in place for repeat offenders. If you have any queries regarding uniform please contact your child's Pastoral Manager.

Sports Achievements

We are proud to announce our sports achievements during the Spring term:

KS3 Boys MAT Badminton Winners
KS3 Girls MAT Badminton Winners
KS3 Grimsby Girls Dodgeball Winners
KS3 MAT Football Winners

Local Residents

The grounds of the Academy are within a residential area. Please can I ask parents to be respectful of local residents when dropping off and collecting their children, particularly when parking vehicles and ensure that private driveways are kept clear.

I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable Easter break

Yours faithfully

Mrs J C Hornby
