20 December 2018
As we approach the holiday I would like to remind all our parents/carers of the following:-
I am pleased to inform you that following a recent visit by Ofsted, the Academy retains its 'good' judgement. Ofsted agreed with the leadership of the Academy on our areas for further development and we will continue to implement our strategies to improve our provision for your children.
As this was a Section 8 inspection they do not provide a full report, however Ofsted publish a letter confirming their findings and I will make this available in the new year on our website.
Excellent attendance is vital for your child's future. Missing school causes severe disruption to your child's education. Please do not keep your child off with minor ailments, we can support them in the Academy. When making doctor, dentist and optician appointments, please try to do so after 3:15pm.
Academy Opening Times
With effect from Monday 7 January 2019, the Academy will open to students from 8:00am. This means that the gate to the playground will be locked until this time and children will be unable to enter the school grounds.
On Monday 17 December a large number of grandparents of our Year 7 students joined us for an afternoon at the Academy. Grandparents play an increasingly important part in the lives of students and our Year 7 thoroughly enjoyed making festive items in the Technology and Art departments with their grandchildren, before having a well-earned break with tea and cake.
The Christmas concert was held on Wednesday 19 December. My thanks to all parents who came to the concert and to the students who took part and made it such a special and enjoyable occasion.
As some parents may be purchasing some extra items of uniform over the Christmas break, can I take this opportunity to remind you of some aspects of our uniform policy. Students should wear black shoes not boots. If a jumper is required in the colder months a plain black V neck sweater can be worn underneath their blazer. May I remind parents that discreet make-up is allowed in Year 11 only. Students wearing make-up in the lower years will be asked to remove it and disciplinary sanctions will be put in place for repeat offenders. If you have any queries regarding uniform please contact your child's Head of House.
Non Uniform Day
On the last day of term, Friday 21 December 2018, students will be permitted to attend a non-uniform day. Please note that this does not include fancy dress or sleepwear, any students inappropriately dressed will be asked to return home to change.
Finally, may I thank you all for your continued support in 2018 and on behalf of all the staff at the Academy wish you all a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. The new term starts on Monday 7 January 2019.
